Today was it-3210's first day of presenting our lep's. I felt as a class everyone did a great job in presenting and working on their Lep's. It has come to my realization that although many of us want to be teachers , teaching and being in front of a class is not that easy. But I am very thankful for this class. At first I thought it was a lot of unnecessary work , but I have learned to appreciate every lesson I have done this semester. It was a lot of work , but I know this is all for the betterment of my future career as a teacher, Thank you Mrs. Davis and thank you IT-3210. I also want to wish everyone the best of luck on their presentations, their finals and the rest of their college matriculation at Georgia State.

As the semester is coming to an end I can really say that I enjoyed using the many resources in this class. It has both been interesting and a help to my future career as a teacher. There are so many web pages and resources that can direct you and open your mind to many new ideas . I can honestly say that this class is something that I can fall back on withhin my carreer. Final Reflection Paper

Now when entering a classroom I feel a lot more comfortable with using technology. After using various kinds of resources and technology in this class I know that I have a lot more confidence and I am a lot more familiar with the various technologies. I have even thought of many ideas of implementing these technologies in the classrooms I will be teaching in.
With these new levels of technologies I know that not only can I teach a lesson with technologies like Microsoft Power Point and Excel I can also keep my students remain interested and I can also make learning fun with theses technologies. The technology for me can be an Ice breaker if I ever get a little scared when I start teaching and it can also be a quick guide on where I’m going next.
Technologies can definitely help teaching and learning. For a teacher, technology can be like a layout or guide if they ever loose track on the next step while teaching. It can help build a teachers confidence, through the resource of overheads or pictures. Also with overheads and pictures, this provides the students with a visual of what their trying to learn. This way learning can be a lot easier for those who have a hard time paying attention or who are visual learners. Another way I’ve learned that technology can be a help with teaching and learning is it can help the child who is struggling in school because of socioeconomic problems like low income. Through technology it can help both the parent and the student become more involved and become closer emotionally. It can help the student have better grades and become successful in his or her academic achievements.
As I move throughout my teaching career I will make it my duty to always become updated or informed of any new technologies. This way my students can be right on the same level on what their supposed to be learning. Also the newer and more advanced the technology the better this is for the students. This not only allows the students to learn more and maybe even achieve more than local schools on their level it also, presents a challenge for the students and helps them to strive to have success over these challenges.

This web page had a lot of interesting software products. I found it encouraging to see what the different types of software have to offer for students and even parents of all ages. I hope that these kinds of software can be a help to improve and build children's education.

Low- Income and Technology

I had the pleasure of reading the article on low income parents and the effect on their children's education. It is very clear that in some homes, parents have to work two and three jobs just to put food on the table. It is also very clear that because of this , the parents have less time to spend with their children. The child is not getting that time with his or her parent for them to monitor their school work, the parent because less involved in the child's school work and school life, and as a result of this the student's education development will can and will fail.
Throughout this article I learned about a program called Computers for Youth (CFY). The goal for CFY was to help low-income students become engaged learners and thereby succeed in schol and in life.This program provided computers to many low income families with in the local neighboorhoods. As a result of this program , parents began to spend more time with their children doing various activities on the computer and the students educational development seemed to increase. Also through the use of the computers the families have become closer emotionally. One student reported that the computers have helped us take on task as a family and helped us become closer as a family .
CFY is a great program and I hope that it is continued and it continues to help better families throught our world.

Facts about the east coast

Project Name: Learning all about the East Coast

Description of Learning Goals and Standards: My goal from this lesson is for the students to first find out information and to be able to plot it down in a table.By the end of this lesson the students should have learned all about the East Coast and they should also be able to answer questions relating to the information about each state.
QCC:
Grade level: 4th
Title: Facts on the regions of the east coast.
Annotation: The concept of this lesson was for the students to use the facts they discovered for each state and plot it in a table to be able to use it for future activities.

Rationale for Technology: The implementing of this technology has made it easy to categorize different kinds of information into different categories. This is also a chance for the students to have a visual of the information in the table. The advantages of this topic is that it broadens the students mind to want to find out more information about the rest of the states of America. The disadvantages is this particular lesson only includes the states of the East Coast.

Description of Lesson Implementation: While creating this lesson I came up with the idea of listing information on the states because I knew a lot of information could be found. Through many resources all of the information on each state was found. Some obstacles I encountered while doing this lesson was finding out different topics of information to list. If other teachers or parents want to use this lesson they should make sure they find a good resource of information and take time out to make this table with patience. They can also present this too a class and put students in groups of no more than two and assign them a state. Then the student can say present information on their state in front of the class or with a parent in front of the family. Some good questions that can be asked to the students are: Which state was established first? Which states have the same state flower? Which state has the highest population?

Assessment : By assessing this lesson this opens students to the idea of tables and learning how to make their own tables in the future

Other Places to Use this Solution: This solution can be used in the classroom to present a lot of information. This can also be used at home to categorize information like menu's on the family meals.

What I Learned and What I would Improve it Next Time : I learned that their is a lot of interesting facts about each state within the United States as well as enough information to make the states unique in their own way. In the future I would like to include information on the rest of the fifty states.

Project Name:Georgia's temperatures in 2004

Description of Learning Goals and Standards:This particular project was used to introduce students to collecting information and to calculating averages, additions and subtractions. With a charity used the topic of weather because it seemed simple enough but at the same time interesting for the grade level. This is important so that in the future the students may be able to understand the differences in weather throughout the year.
QCC'S:
Grade level:3rd grade
Topic: Numbers and the weather
Standard: Students will learn how to input different temperatures of the weather on a chart, throughout the year.

Rationale for Technology: By using this technology my goal of introducing and getting the students familiar with plotting information in a chart can be accomplished this is more of better visual,through both the chart and the bar graph, for the temperatures of the weather of the advantages is the chart can plot as much information as needed The disadvantages of this lesson is that if you plot in any wrong information it can mess up the whole entire chart when calculating information like the average or a subtraction formula.

Description of Lesson Implementation: While thinking of a project/ lesson to do with Microsoft excel, I thought to do something simple that children would find interest in doing. So I thought, what is something that students talk about almost everyday in school, the weather. Through some resources I found out the temperatures for 2004 and recorded them. This lesson can show students how the temperatures change throughout the year because of the time of year and the position of the sun is also a good way to help students compute different calculations like the average, and subtracting different numbers. A parent or teacher can easily do this project or one like it by finding the information needed and plotting it on a chart. But we as teachers and parents need to make sure to allow the students to plot the information thereselves because this gives the chance to learn how to do it and it is good practice for future projects.

Assessment:Through this project I can assess students learning by allowing to plot information down whenever they have an activity with numbers, this way throughout the chart and the bar graph they can visually see the differences in the numbers, while at the same time finding different calculations.

Other Places to Use this Solution: This solution can definitely be used in the classroom when plotting information and calculating different formulas It can also be used at home just for fun and practice with a lot of numbers .

What I Learned and What I would Improve it Next Time: This lesson has opened my mind to different ideas and options with Microsoft excel, in the future I will definitely use excel in my classrooms. I also learned that with Microsoft excel requires patience to plot in all the information.

Through this lesson I was hoping to show a different way of learning where the children feel a sense of freedom and individuality in the newspaper

Description of Lesson Implementation: Through this lesson I was hoping to show a different way of learning where the children feel a sense of importance,and freedom throughout this newsletter. This lesson was a chance for the students to feel important reading about themselves and their school. So that in the future they can get excited about learning and having an input . I had a lot of options as to what to do for this activity, but I choose Easter because it only fit right for the upcoming holiday activity can also be used at home to introduce many other topics as well as in the classroom. This can also be a chance to introduce the students to the daily newspaper and what it's all about.

Assessment:
After introducing this activity it can be a chance to learn about the daily newspaper and what it's all about. Also maybe this activity will interest students in making their own newsletter about topics they feel are of great interest. This can also be a chance to get students involved in school related activities.

Other Places to Use this Solution: This solution can definitely be used in the classroom to introduce many topics of discussion and presentations for the students to perform theirselves . Also this can be practice for the students on how to write up a newsletter. This solution can be used at home as well for kids to do presentations for the parents.

What I Learned and What I would Improve it Next Time:
I learned that a newsletter doesn't always have to include boring bad news. It can consist of a lot of interesting ideas, topics and discussions. Next time I would try to include some activities for the students to do while reading the newsletter, just to keep them interested.

Project Name:Pleasin' Seasons

Description of Learning Goals and Standards:
The purpose of this presentation was to introduce the four seasons to the students. The presentation included pictures which purpose was to give students an idea of how each season looks. Also a little description of what goes on during these seasons was given this way , each student can easily point out or name what is connected to each season.

Rationale for Technology: Using the technology of Power point is more of help for the students to really understand what is being taught. Through the use of animation , colors and pictures this keeps the students interest and makes learning about the seasons fun. It also shows how easy it is to make their own presentation and maybe in the future this presentation can be enough of an inspiration to inspire future presentations.

Description of Lesson Implementation:When I first started this presentation I thought to myself what would be a good presentation that would be fun and interesting. Also I kept in mind, making a presentation with not to much information but just enough to keep the readers interested. So while looking the QCC's I thought the seasons would be a good idea with the help of enough pictures and illustrations. Throughout this project there were no real big problems I encountered.Other student, teachers or parents might use this lesson as an introduction to learning about the weather.

Assessment : After watching the presentation my expectaion for the students is not only for them to know all the season but to also be able to understand and relate what type of weather goes with each season. Another goal is that the students learn the sequence of seasons and are able to point them out on a calender and relate each month with its season.

Other Places to Use this Solution: This solution can be introduced to children at home by the parents, it can be used in all classrooms and while playing outside a teacher can point up to the sky and compare the weather to what season they are in.

What I Learned and What I would Improve it Next Time : Through this presentation I learned how to use Goggle to find pictures and I also had fun choosing colors for my slides. In the future I would try to implement more to be learned just from knowing the seasons like, what to wear for certain seasons and holidays.

Also this can inspire the students to want to learn about other topics using inspiration because of its great visuals , that catch their eyes.
Description of Lesson Implementation: I chose to an inspiration on the seven continents only because it seemed simple enough for those children just learning about inspiration. Right away when I thought of the continents a lot of ideas came to mind. I was hoping to implement flags, animals and different kinds of landmarks assosicated with each continent. It was to my advantage that through inspiration I had access to all these ideas was then able to put the different pictures in the inspiration just to show the students about the different cultures with in the each continent. The only blind alleys I found was finding a flag for each continent. I would suggest for not only me but for any parents or teachers that want to use this inspiration as a lesson that when going through each continent to a step by step of naming everything on the inspiration associated with each continent, so there will be no confusion.

What I learned:

Mid-Term Reflection Paper

Since my last reflection paper my initial expectations for this class were to become more comfortable and knowledgeable about the computer. I really wanted to learn basic things like the importance and meaning of saving and save as. Now a few weeks later I can say a lot of those expectations have been met. I am now very aware of the different activities, lesson plans and information that can be found on the internet to use in the classroom. This has made me feel a lot more comfortable and confident in coming up with new ideas for the classroom I will be teaching in.
Through out this course I have grown to explore on my own and figure out how to do new things. At first I was a little confused and asked myself “What am I doing”. This in itself was a big challenge for me because I know that I wasn’t too familiar with the computer. But now that I’ve learned so many new things in the course I’ve learned that it’s ok to be confused and mess up at first. It’s just finding your way and tackling those challenges after that, which makes a difference. So I can honestly say that now while coming on the computer using various activities and webpage’s like blogspot as helped me become more confident.
Not only has this course made me more comfortable and confident, it has also made me more interested in using the computer and its many resources. Before I took this course I hadn’t really communicated with other students on the computer before. This has personally been a tremendous help and advantage. I now have the opportunity to here advice from the student’s perspective. This way I can really get the chance to prepare myself for when it comes time for me to teach. Their advice can both encourage and make me a better future teacher. Overall this course has made using the computer not only a learning experience but it has also made it easy to use, very beneficial and a lot of fun.

Rationale for Technology:
By integrating this form of technology, now the students get a chance to experience a different way of learning and now learning can be interesting and fun. This technology also helps the students learn how to use the different techniques required to make a web page. The disadvantages to the web page I choose is that it may bring about some negativity between a diverse group of students and their thoughts on black leaders depending on what they were taught in the past. The advantage to this particular web page is that for those that new nothing about Civil Rights figures, this is their chance.

Description of Lesson Implementation:
When I first thought about what I was going to do my web page on, the first idea that came to my mind was the month of February. So since we were in the month of February I found it fit to do a Civil rights Figure. Insert a picture of Rosa Parks on a bus to me was a great idea just so students can see a symbolized picture of what Rosa Parks did. The questions on the web page where put there so that each student has a chance to go out research the answers for themselves. This way by the time each student is done reading the web page, if asked he or she can list at least one idea about Rosa Parks.

Assessment :
To assess the student's learning , I want to assign for them to go out and make their own web page on someone they feel has made a positive impact in theirs or someone else's life. This way the student gets the chance to make their own web page.

Other Places to Use this Solution:
This solution can be used greatly in the classroom for many age groups. It can also be used in classroom for handicapped students where it is strictly technology based. When given the chance a parent can also use this technology at home if he or she just want to teach their child about important people.

What I Learned and What I would Improve it Next Time:
Being that this was my first time making a web page I learned how to make a web page and the different technologies needed to make a web page like links and clip art to find pictures. In the future I would like to include more information and more pictures. To evaluate my web page a little I would just add my pictures on the whole Montgomery Bus boycott and include more information on what happened during this time.

After reading this scenario it has proven to me that emails and they different technologies of the computer can be very useful and beneficial to exploring the internet. It's amazing how using new techniques like the internet can help increase a student's interest in the lesson. Hopefully in the future many more teachers will learn and gain access to the advantages of the interenet. Then this will make the teachers job easier and the classroom a better learning enviornment.

This is a quote fro,M.D Roblyer's Educational Technology in Action chapter10. This was from a scenario where a teacher wanted her students to be artistically literate but knew it was impossible to travel to the best museums at the time . So another teacher introduced a great idea!. She mentioned that it is possible to visit these museums and get more information out of it. This new idea would happen through just visting the wonderful web pages of these museums. This way the students can see items faster, there questions can be answered faster and a web site collection of their work, which can be put on a server. All of this without even leaving the classroom. I personally feel technology is a great, there's so much you can do and the ability to get any information you need is endless.

This lesson plan overall was pretty good , but as far the criteria's of providing a title, url and hot link the lesson was given a 3. This being because there was not a url provided. The description of the lesson was very well put together, the grammar was correct and it was explained in great detail so this rating was a 5. An evaluation was given and it did demonstrate and understanding of the quality of the lesson so I gave this section a rating of a 5.

Materials: Computer with Microsoft Excel program, yardstick, pencil and paper, printer.
Objective: To introduce students to the program Microsoft Excel and chart individual math totals.
Vocabulary: Microsoft Excel, heights, inches, ruler or yardstick, data, spreadsheet.Procedure:
1. Have each student measure each other and write down how tall they are in inches on a piece of paper.2. Then have the students type the height in inches by their name on an Excel spreadsheet.3. Show the students how to highlight the data and click the Chart Icon.4. Make a copy for each student to take home. Results: The student will be able to see the different heights of his/her classmates by the Excel chart.
Follow-up Activity: Have the students measure different objects in the classroom and around the school building and chart the heights on Excel.
Homework: Have the students "measure" other items in the home and bring the data in inches to school to chart on Excel. Be sure to tell them to "label" all items measured at home also.

My Evaluation
This lesson plan gets a 2 for meeting the criteria of listing the title of the lesson but not the url or a hot link. As far as a description of the lesson plan the score I gave is a 4.5. This lesson plan does include the summary which is specific and includes items such as objectives, unit theme or subject areas . There was no evaluation given, so for this area I would give a 2 only because the creater of this lesson did include a follow up activity and homework. So the complete score for this lesson plan is a 8.5

While taking the class IT3210 I hope to learn how to learn to expand my knowledge about computers and how to yuse them in the classroom setting. As of right now I would say that my knowledge of computers is pretty much experienced but there are still things I'm not confident with. Over the years I have learned to use all forms of Microsoft as well as the Internet to find information. In high school just about every year I remeber always taking some kind of computer class. In my senior year I took a class called speed writing and to this day I still use the skills learned in the class.
If simple topics like the difference between save an save as and how to transfer files were skipped I would feel kind of lost because those are basic things we should know when using computers. I'm really excited about hearing student's ideas about how to use computers in the classroom and how to incorporate the computer into the classroom for different grade levels. I would love to take advantage of my access of teachnology here at Georgia State and to one day be able to use computers and other forms of technology in my own classroom.
Teachnology in the classroom today needs first to be used with a lot of care. It should be used to help broaden a student's intellecy through technology. At the same time, there are a lot of precautions that should be used with computers in a classroom setting. First the maintenance and up keep, how to use a computer and there should also be blocks on where the children should be able to browse. The best idea for students especially those in the elementary and secondary level is for them not to have access to the internet while attending school. Instead they should just be allowed to use CD ROMs for certain subject areas for different activities they will be doing.
Using technology in the classroom is a great advantage for every student. It helps the student learn from a different aspect and not just from lectures or the book. For the student who looses interest quickly, through the regular from of teaching this is a way to get his or her attention and keep them involved. There are also those students who have dissabiliites who can use technologies to learn and communicate within the classroom. So as a result they can be placed into a general education classroom through these technologies. Some students may find different forms of technology as an easier way to learn. Even though technologies may have its down falls of not always being de[pendable, it's a great idea and it should be used in every classroom.

Initial idea of the overall goal for creating the Learning Environment: For the students to learn how to have fun with mathematics and technology, by identifying place value

Sample QCC to be addressed in Learning Environment: To Learn how to add numbers using virtual images on the computer by adding . This lesson address the students need to understand technology with math

Initial ideas for activities: The activity is basicly a game of place value on the computer. This can be done in groups of 2 to 4 players depending on the age group. There will be a chart on the computer from microsoft excell, and it will contain all the place values in a category ex: 1's, 10's,100's etc. First one playerwill throw dice , then another player can calculate by multiplying the numbers. Then another player can write out that calculation on the chart according to place value.(The players can rotate jobs. After that the steps are repeated and which ever team reaches the largest place value wins

Advice from a future teacher

From reading the message boards form the students I learned that being a good teahcer does not just require a degree or for you tobe able to teach. A good teaher is also one that knows how to keep the students interested while learning. Many students included in their messages that a teacher should know how to make learning fun and respect the students. As a future teacher I've gotten clarity that its very important to make school not just a place you have to go to , but also a place each student should enjoy going to because he or she knows they will enjoy learning.
